I meant a feeling of superiority in a narrow field. &quot;I give more to charity,&quot; might be one such feeling in a narrow field. 

But then converting that feeling to lashon hara would often be based on feeling insecure about oneself [in general] and therefore trying to tear others down, too.</description>

Those who feel the need to hurt others with their tongues are usually those who are insecure about themselves. Their appearence of superiority is only a defense mechanism against their insecurity.</description>
